Southern Iowa Produce LLC is a partnership owned by a number of local shareholders who constructed a a new facility near Drakesville, Iowa
for the purpose of selling produce, providing a market for interested growers along with a source of fresh produce.
Perishable crops will be picked just hours before the sale
The auction will provide a produce product better and fresher than "shipped in" produce with
quality and quantity to fill the needs of buyers at all times.
In early sales will be greenhouse tomatoes, hanging baskets and flowers in wholesale lots as well as smaller lots.
All types of fresh vegetables and ornamental crops selling in season
Numerous bedding plants are available
The auction is directed to wholsesale buyers such as stores, roadside stands and farm markets
but anyone that can use produce in boxes or flat lots for canning, freezing etc. are welcome to buy.
There are always some small lots.
The idea of selling produce at auction was formed by several local growers who realized a need for a central point for growers and buyers to gather.
Also, they had observed the huge success of similar auctions among the Amish and Mennonite communities.
